Nederburg Auction 2017

Nederburg Auction 2017

This was the first time that the auction was held on one day only and seasoned auctioneer David Elswood did a sterling job keeping it fresh and interesting even though it went over time by about an hour.  This did not seem to deter any of the serious punters as there was more than enough delicious sustenance flowing.

Platter launch of 2017 at Table Bay Hotel

The Platter guide for 2017 was launched at the Table Bay hotel on Monday 31 Oct 2016.  It really was a night for the big producers to show that they can make not just volume but great quality too. The Winery of the Year was won by a big producer making 3 000 000 cases a year - Nederburg, and this was the 2nd time they have won this prestigious title.

Celebrating 40 years of Meerlust wines!

Celebrating 40 years of Meerlust wines!

The South African Wine industry really is coming of age and Meerlust, being an icon of SA Wines, is forging ahead of the pack. I was honoured to celebrate their 40th year of wine-labels with their team on Friday 13 Nov, 2015. Owner Hannes Myburgh, a most gentle man is the 8th generation on the farm. He has a dedicated team with Cellarmaster Chris Williams having been on the farm for 18 years, Roelie Joubert, the vineyard manager, has also taken on a herd of Nguni to add to his responsibilities! We were treated to a selection of older wines from the farm - including a surprisingly drinkable 40-year old Cab, and a 1995 Rubicon.

Conny Ganss is a sommelier from Germany who has worked at Wein&Co in Austria and is taking a trip around the South African Winelands to experience it first hand, before she makes a decision about what her future holds for her. Trish Lombard & Eddie Turner took us through the Meerlust wines.. mmm delicious - especially the Chardonnay.

Meerlust launches their 2011 Red

Meerlust launches their 2011 Red

Chris Williams, winemaker at Meerlust, apologised for launching another vintage of their RED. What this means is that the wine which they usually blend for their Rubicon did not quite make it that far, so they bottle it under the RED label. We were privileged to have both the 2002 and the 2011 - and what stunning wines.
