Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 Released - 04/07/2007 Print E-mail

three bottles of meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon 2004Meerlust gained its reputation for producing superb Cabernet Sauvignon wines in the ‘70s and ‘80s. With the emergence of Rubicon as the Iconic red from South Africa, best Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were used in the production of that blend. Consequently, the last Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon was produced in 1993.

Understanding the distinctive complexity of Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the Estate, Meerlust undertook an extensive planting programme in the mid ‘90s. Now that those vines are reaching maturity, Meerlust was able to produce both Rubicon and Cabernet Sauvignon in 2004.

The 2004 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon was produced from a single vineyard and captures the distinctive essence of this variety grown at Meerlust. The opportunity to use the unique William Kentridge artwork for the renaissance vintage of this wine to coincide with the production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute is an appropriate tribute to both a great South African artist and a classic South African wine.

Grown with dedication and passion and handcrafted to express the proud individuality of the Estate, Meerlust Cabernet Sauvignon will only be made in years that best express the complexity and authenticity of this particular single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon.
