VINIFICATION
Meerlust Merlot is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. After a long, cool summer the Merlot grapes were picked in February and March by hand. Fermentation took place in steel tanks for 7 days. After pressing, the wine underwent malo-lactic fermentation in tank. After blending, the wine was barrel matured for 18 months in 80% new 300 litre Nevers oak barrels before bottling.
TASTING NOTES
Intense, dark plum colour. The nose has typical ripe Merlot scents, black and red fruits, combined with rich spiciness and musky perfume. The palate is rich and mouth filling, with soft silky tannins & a long lingering aftertaste.
