Hannes Myburgh, eighth generation owner of Meerlust, graduated from the University of Stellenbosch with a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in French and English in 1982, before studying winemaking at Geisenheim in Germany. Hannes worked at Chateau Lafite in France and Von Oetinger in Germany.
The Managing Director
De Waal is a graduate of The University of Stellenbosch where he completed a
BSc and MSc in Agriculture before going on to do his MBA. A successful career
followed at Triomf and Sasol until his retirement in 2000. In 2003 he was
coaxed out of retirement and joined Meerlust. The wine industry boasts many
Springbok rugby players and Albie is no exception having played for the
Springboks against the French in 1967. He is assisted by Corrie Ireland –
Manager Finance and Administration and her team of Yolanda Joubert
(procurement) and Loujean Thebus (financial controller).
Chris Williams was appointed Cellar Master at Meerlust in 2004 but worked as Assistant Winemaker for the estate from 1995 to 2000. He studied Oenology at Elsenburg and gained international experience in France while working for Michel Rolland. His interest was aroused in the classical French wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhone Valley. He is assisted by Wilson Waterboer and the cellar team.
Roelie Joubert completed his Elsenburg Agricultural Diploma in 1994, joining Meerlust in June 2001. Roelie has been responsible for developing and establishing new vineyards at Meerlust as well as nurturing the established vineyards to produce concentrated, balanced fruit. He is assisted by Joseph Muller and the vineyard team.
The Marketing Manager
Eddie Turner joined Meerlust in 2010 after 25 years with Anglo American Farms where he was responsible for the marketing of Boschendal and Vergelegen wines. He completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Pretoria majoring in Business Economics. He is assisted by Esmé Nothanagel (export logistics) and Trish Lombard (wine shop).
